Murchisonia quadricarinata was named by M'Coy (1844). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Murchisonia (Hypergonia) quadricarinata by Donald (1892); it was recombined as Solenospira quadricarinata by Ulrich and Scofield (1897); it was recombined as Stegocoelia (Hypergonia) quadricarinata by Batten (1966); it was recombined as Hypergonia quadricarinata by Wagner (2017).
