Murchisonia (Hypergonia) kirkbyi was named by Donald (1892). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Stegocoelia (Hypergonia) kirkbyi by Batten (1966); it was recombined as Hypergonia kirkbyi by Longstaff (1926) and Wagner (2017).
