Taxonomy
Nuculoidea was named by Williams and Berger (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1117].

It was reranked as Nucula (Nuculoidea) by Shimer and Shrock (1944).

It was assigned to Nucula by Shimer and Shrock (1944); to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nuculidae by Cox et al. (1969), Vokes (1980) and Mikkelsen (2006).
