Taxonomy
Astropecten lorioli was named by de Loriol and Pellat (1874). Its type specimen is Holotype BMNH E 1639 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Archastropecten lorioli by Hess (1955); it was recombined as Pentasteria (Pentasteria) lorioli by Lewis (1993).
