Dasypus (Hyperoambon) was named by Peters (1865) [almost certainly named as a subgenus and possibly never raised to genus level]. It is extant. Its type is Dasypus kappleri.

It was assigned to Dasypus by Peters (1865) and Rincón et al. (2008).
