Loricatus hybridus was named by Desmarest (1804). It is extant.

It was recombined as Dasypus hybridus by Fischer (1814); it was recombined as Tatusia hybrida by Ameghino (1889); it was recombined as Dasypus (Dasypus) hybridus by Rincón et al. (2008).
