Solen obliquus was named by Spengler (1794). It is extant. It is the type species of Solena, Solena (Eosolen).

It was recombined as Solena (Eosolen) obliquus by Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Solen (Solena) obliquus by Woodring (1982).
