Tindaria was named by Bellardi (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant. Its type is Tindaria arata.

It was reranked as Malletia (Tindaria) by Dall (1897).

It was assigned to Malletia by Dall (1897); to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Tindariidae by Coan et al. (2000) and Spencer et al. (2004); and to Yoldiidae by Mikkelsen (2006).
