Taxonomy
Tanysiphonidae was named by Scarlato and Starobogatov (1971). It is extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Tanysiphoninae by Bouchet et al. (2010), Carter et al. (2011) and Signorelli and Carter (2016).

It was assigned to Mactroidea by Nevesskaja (2009); and to Mactridae by Bouchet et al. (2010), Carter et al. (2011) and Signorelli and Carter (2016).
