Vorkutella was named by Muromtseva and Guskov (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: P Sepkoski's reference number: ZR76]. It is not extant. Its type is Vorkutella dembskaja.

It was assigned to Solemyidae by Muromtseva and Guskov (1984); and to Solemyoida by Sepkoski (2002).
