Pteranodon longiceps

Taxonomy
Pteranodon longiceps was named by Marsh (1876). Its type specimen is YPM 1177, a skull (nearly complete skull), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is 3 mi NE Monument Rocks, which is in a Santonian/Campanian offshore chalk in the Niobrara Formation of Kansas.

It was recombined as Pteranodon (Longicepia) longiceps by Miller (1971) and Miller (1971); it was synonymized subjectively with Pteranodon ingens by Schoch (1984).
