Neklania was named by Růžička and Přibyl (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: S u; misspelled Necklandia].

It was assigned to Praecardioida by Sepkoski (2002); to Antipleuridae by Kříž (2007); and to Neklaniidae by Scarlato and Starobogatov (1979) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
