Taxonomy
Patrocardia was named by Fischer (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Spanila by Cox et al. (1969).

It was assigned to Bivalvia by Heritsch (1929); to Lunulacardiidae by Vokes (1980); and to Praecardioida by Sepkoski (2002).
