Slava was named by Barrande (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m S Ludl-l]. It is the type genus of Slavidae.

It was assigned to Praecardiinae by Vokes (1980); to Praecardioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Slavidae by Kríž (1982) and Kříž (2007).
