Binoculites was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis R Sepkoski's reference number: 988]. It is extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Binoculites terquemi.
It was assigned to Stichopitidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962), Frizzell and Exline (1966), Mostler (1968), Mostler (1972) and Soodan and Whatley (1990); and to Dendrochirotida by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952), Pawson (1966), Gilliland (1992) and Sepkoski (2002).
It was assigned to Stichopitidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962), Frizzell and Exline (1966), Mostler (1968), Mostler (1972) and Soodan and Whatley (1990); and to Dendrochirotida by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952), Pawson (1966), Gilliland (1992) and Sepkoski (2002).
