Aupouria was named by Powell (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant. Its type is Aupouria parvula.

It was assigned to Limopsidae by Fleming (1966); to Arcoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Philobryidae by Spencer et al. (2004).
