Bathyarca was named by Kobelt (1891) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 545,1112]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Scapharca (Bathyarca) by Dall (1898); it was reranked as Arca (Bathyarca) by Koperberg (1931).

It was assigned to Scapharca by Dall (1898); to Arca by Koperberg (1931); to Arcinae by Reinhart (1943); to Arcoida by Sepkoski (2002); to Anadarinae by Vokes (1980), Maxwell (1992), Coan et al.
