Bellaxinaea was named by Nicol (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Tucetona (Bellaxinaea) by Coan et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Tucetona by Coan et al. (2000); to Glycymerididae by Todd (2001); and to Arcoida by Sepkoski (2002).
