Taxonomy
Hemisphaeranthos costifera was named by Terquem and Berthelin (1875). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Hemisphaeranthos.

It was recombined as Myriotrochites costiferus by Deflandre-Rigaud (1950) and Deflandre-Rigaud (1952).
