Achistrum triassicum was named by Frizzell and Exline (1955). It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was recombined as Achistrum (Achistrum) triassicum by Hampton (1958); it was misspelled as Aschistrum triassicum by Gutschick (1959), Kozur and Mostler (1971) and Gazdzicki et al. (1978).
