Taxonomy
Ancistrum ludwigi was named by Croneis and McCormack (1932). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Claypit, Bridgeport, Wise County, which is in a Missourian marine claystone in the Graford Formation of Texas.

It was recombined as Achistrum (Achistrum) ludwigi by Hampton (1958); it was recombined as Achistrum ludwigi by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952), Summerson and Campbell (1958), Gutschick (1959) and Zawidzka (1971).
