Taxonomy
Stichopites spinosus was named by Frizzell and Exline (1955). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Parvispina.

It was recombined as Parvispina spinosa by Kornicker and Imbrie (1958) and Deflandre-Rigaud (1962).
