Hippocrepina was named by Parker in Dawson (1870) [Sepkoski's age data: R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Astrorhizidae by Harlton (1933); to Hyperamminidae by Cushman (1927) and Morlotti (1988); to Hippocrepininae by Loeblich and Tappan (1988); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
