Philobrya was named by Carpenter (1872) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Arcoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Philobryidae by Grant, IV and Gale (1931), Vokes (1980), Lamprell and Healy (1998), Coan et al. (2000), Spencer et al. (2004) and Bouchet et al. (2010).

Synonyms
  • Bryophila was named by Carpenter (1864) [HISTORY: Name preoccupied, replaced by Philobrya Cooper 1867 [Coan et al. 2000].]. It is extant.

    It was replaced with Philobrya by Coan et al. (2000).
