Trinacria was named by Mayer (1868) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes T Eo-m-u Sepkoski's reference number: 700,914,991]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Limopsidae by Popenoe (1937); to Trinacriinae by Vokes (1980) and Dockery (1982); and to Arcoida by Sepkoski (2002).
