Taxonomy
Aeidimytilus was named by Olsson (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 816]. It is extant. Its type is Mytilus adamsianus.

It was reranked as Brachidontes (Aeidimytilus) by Moore (1983).

It was assigned to Mytilidae by Hertlein and Grant (1972) and Vokes (1980); to Brachidontes by Moore (1983); and to Mytiloida by Sepkoski (2002).
