Taxonomy
Chirodota geinitziana was named by Spandel (1898). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Protheelia.
It was recombined as Chiridotites geinitzianus by Deflandre-Rigaud (1950) and Deflandre-Rigaud (1952); it was recombined as Protheelia geinitziana by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962), Frizzell and Exline (1966), Soodan (1991) and Reich (2007).
