Rhynchonella morierei was named by Davidson (1852).

It was recombined as Kallirhynchia morierei by Buckman (1917); it was recombined as Kutchirhynchia morieri by Laurin (1984); it was recombined as Kutchirhynchia morrieri by Shi and Grant (1993).
