Taxonomy
Trichomusculus was named by Iredale (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant. Its type is Trichomusculus barbatus.

It was assigned to Mytilidae by Vokes (1980) and Lamprell and Healy (1998); to Mytiloida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Musculinae by Spencer et al. (2004).
