Synaptites cuvillieri was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1949). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Rigaudites.

It was recombined as Rigaudites cuvillieri by Frizzell and Exline (1957), Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) and Reich and Wiese (2010).
