Lopha (Actinostreon) was named by Bayle (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: J K Maes]. Its type is Ostrea solitaria.

It was reranked as Actinostreon by Vokes (1980), Sepkoski (2002), Aberhan (2010) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).

It was assigned to Lopha by Bayle (1878); to Lophinae by Vokes (1980); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); to Palaeolophidae by Aberhan (2010); and to Ostreidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
