Cominella plicatilis was named by Bose (1906).

It was recombined as Dorsanum plicatilum by Mansfield (1930); it was recombined as Dorsanum plicatile by Tucker and Wilson (1932); it was recombined as Calophos plicatilis by Woodring (1964) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
