Allonychia was named by Ulrich (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara O Ashg-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Megambonia jamesi.

It was assigned to Ambonychiidae by Pojeta (1966); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
