Altaipecten was named by Yang and Chen (1985) [Sepkoski's age data: C l C Step Sepkoski's reference number: ZR85,1058]. It is not extant. Its type is Altaipecten multicostatus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Undopecten by Newell and Boyd (1995) and Fang et al. (2009).
It was assigned to Pectinidae by Yang and Chen (1985); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
