Amphijanira was named by Bittner (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 94,524]. It is not extant. Its type is Pecten (Janira) janirula.

It was reranked as Pecten (Amphijanira) by Bittner (1902).

It was assigned to Pecten by Bittner (1902); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aviculopectinidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
