Synapta oligocaenica was named by Spandel (1900). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Croneisites.
It was recombined as Synaptites oligocaenicus by Deflandre-Rigaud (1949); it was recombined as Croneisites oligocaenicus by Frizzell and Exline (1957) and Deflandre-Rigaud (1962).
