Atreta was named by Etallon (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 790,1066]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Plicatulidae by Vokes (1980) and Tashiro and Kozai (1982); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dimyidae by Waller (2012).
