Taxonomy
Kirkbya centronota was named by Ulrich and Bassler (1906).

It was recombined as Amphissites (Amphissites) centronotus by Becker and Wang (1992); it was recombined as Amphissites centronotus by Kellett (1933), Ishizaki (1964), Fohrer (1997), Crasquin-Soleau (1997) and Ferdinando (2001).
