Dimya was named by Rouault (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Dimyidae by Vokes (1980), Woodring (1982), Dockery (1982), Lamprell and Healy (1998), Coan et al. (2000) and Todd (2001); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
