Orthothrix excavata
Taxonomy
Orthis excavata was named by Geinitz (1842). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Altenburg near Pösnek (Freiberger Kabinet), which is in a Wuchiapingian reef, buildup or bioherm dolomite in the Zechstein Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Strophalosia excavata by King (1850) and Geinitz (1861); it was recombined as Orthothrix excavatus by Suveizdis et al. (1975); it was recombined as Orthothrix excavata by Geinitz (1848), Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960) and Tazawa (1975).
