Taxonomy
Sinocoelonella caperata was named by Guan (1978).

It was recombined as Cyathus caperatus by Chen and Bao (1986); it was recombined as Cyathus caperata by Shi and Chen (1987), Yi (1990), Crasquin and Forel (2010), Chitnarin (2012), Forel et al. (2015), Chitnarin (2015) and Zazzali et al. (2015).
