Taxonomy
Hunanopecten exilis was named by Zhang (1977). Its type specimen is IV55312, a shell (Butterflied articulated external mold), and it is a mold. Its type locality is Duanpoqiao, Shaodong County, which is in a Changhsingian deep-water mudstone in the Dalong Formation of China.
