Taxonomy
Shouchangoceras americanum was named by Frest et al. (1981). Its type specimen is SUI 45087 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Deadman Canyon, Seven Heart Gap, Apache Mountains, which is in a Capitanian perireef or subreef limestone in the Capitan Formation of Texas.
