Glabripecten was named by Waterhouse (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 665]. Its type is Glabripecten glaber.

It was assigned to Etheripectininae by Waterhouse (1982); to Etheripectinini by Waterhouse (2001); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
