Taxonomy
Heteropecten was named by Kegel and Costa (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Heteropectinoidea, Heteropectinidae.
It was assigned to Etheripectinidae by Newell and Boyd (1995); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Heteropectininae by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Neves et al. (2014).
