Imoella was named by Hoare et al. (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 879]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aviculopectinidae by Hoare et al. (1989); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
