Intomodesma was named by Popov (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-l P Tatr Sepkoski's reference number: 1040].

It was reranked as Atomodesma (Intomodesma) by Neves et al. (2014).

It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); to Atomodesmatinae by Biakov (2008); and to Atomodesma by Neves et al. (2014).
