Speloeophorus was named by Milne Edwards (1865). It is extant. Its type is Oreophorus nodosus.

It was assigned to Ebaliinae by Todd and Collins (2005), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Luque et al. (2017) and Karasawa et al. (2019).
