Leochlamys was named by MacNeil (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Chlamys (Leochlamys) by Matsubara (2002).

It was assigned to Pectinidae by Moore (1984); to Chlamys by Matsubara (2002); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
