Taxonomy
Lima was named by Bruguière (1797) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 674]. It is extant. Its type is Ostrea lima.

It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Limidae by Glenn (1904), Packard (1922), Popenoe (1937), Vokes (1973), Vokes (1980), Moore (1987), Beu et al. (1990), Lamprell and Whitehead (1992), Todd (2001), Marquet (2002) and Spencer et al. (2004).
